[ Yangachi + Technology + Art ]

Artist Forum International 2006 will be presenting “Public Moment” as its first year’s theme. There have been numerous discourses on publicness and public art. While these tend to focus on places, such as public sites, “Public Moment” will pay close attention to processes - of public communication, public interface, dialogue and exchange, and formation of public opinion. Subjects will include democracy and other historic values which led the public opinion; shift from local community to global community;and transformation of public sphere through advances in media technology. Also in our interest are various facets of encounter between art and public domain: alternative art market, relationship between art and media, artists and residencies.

AFI 2006 will explore these ideas through multiple platforms – exhibitions, discussions, workshops, and public projects. This year’s AFI 2006 will take place in Seoul and few other major cities of Korea. With a new theme every year, AFI 2006 will present and question key issues of today’s contemporary art. AFI 2006 is initiated by Alternative Space Network in Korea with goal to expand the scope of participation from various organizations, institutions, as well as individuals.

국제작가포럼(Artist Forum International)은 전시, 학술, 워크숍, 프로젝트 등으로 구성된 복합적 예술문화행사로, 서울을 비롯한 한국의 주요 도시에서 매년 개최될 예정입니다. 이 행사는 매년 주제를 달리하며, 동시대 미술의 주요 이슈를 다양한 각도에서 다루는 열린 포럼입니다.

국제작가포럼 2006의 주제는 ‘공공의 순간’입니다. 그동안 공공성과 공공미술에 관한 논의가 주로 공공장소에 집중되어있는 반면, ‘공공의 순간’은 공공적 커뮤니케이션, 공공적 인터페이스, 대화와 교환, 여론 형성의 과정 등 공공적 시간을 주제로 떠올리는 것입니다. 미디어 테크놀로지의 발달로 인한 공론장의 성격 변화, 시민혁명과 민주주의 등 공론을 주도한 20세기적 가치에 대한 기억, 지역공동체에서 복합적인 공동체로의 이동 등 다양한 주제가 이에 포함됩니다. 또한 대안적인 미술시장의 창출, 미술과 언론의 관계, 예술가와 거주프로그램 등 미술과 공공영역이 만날 수 있는 다양한 측면도 우리의 관심사입니다.

이 행사는 최근 한국에서 가장 왕성한 활동을 하고 있는 대안공간을 중심으로 기획되었지만, 점차 다양한 주체, 기관과 개인의 참여를 예정하고 있습니다. 공공과의 다양한 접점에서 제시될 새로운 공공미술의 모델과 가능성들에 대한 깊이 있는 모색이 될 이번 행사에 많은 예술인과 일반인들의 참여를 기대합니다.
